NC's Raleigh/Durham to New York City:  We're Smarter

What makes your city so smart?  Why is #1 Raleigh/Durham ranked higher than #2 San Francisco and #13 New York City?

In a study conducted by
The Daily BeastAmerica's largest cities were ranked according to:

"Collective brainpower. More than sports prowess or political leanings or wealth or cultural accomplishments, this is the quintessential bragging point of a metropolitan area, the civic version of a playground taunt: I'm smart, you're not."

Four criteria were used:  year degrees completed, graduate degrees completed, non-fiction books purchased, and incidence of voting.  The latter two illustrate desire for continual learning and political engagement as it corresponds to engagement and higher intelligence.

The true test of intelligence is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do.
