Students at King Middle School experience the design process through a cross-disciplinary long-term project to solve a big problem: building an energy-saving device that improves lives.

This multi-part long-term student project includes robotics, essay writing, presenting to an audience, researching and reading relevant books, wind turbine building (8 weeks) and a host of activities requiring trial-and-error thinking and doing.

Great story.

PBS reporter John Tulenko from Learning Matters attributes the school's success with student engagement to "relevance".
