"It seems like we lost the goal for education."
- Jon Stewart (in Video #2)

Last night on The Daily Show, Sec'y of Education Arne Duncan joins Jon Stewart.
The second segment is where Stewart jumps in more quickly with his challenging questions.

Two Videos Below:

Video #1 - Part 1 of the Arne Duncan segment

Video #2- Part 2 begins of the 20:25 minute/second mark, the Arne Duncan conversation continues about standards and how one measures it - accountability, elevating the teacher profession, etc.

Link is here for Video #2.  Excerpts:

Stewart:   "It seems like we lost the goal for education. . . If it is to be college-ready, it seems like a low bar because what we want is for people to be able to problem-solve . . ."

Duncan agrees and adds to be creative, work in diverse groups . . .

Stewart:  "But to do that, we've handed them a work-sheet  . . . which had an opposite effect."

Duncan then talked about how federal monies are being spent toward better assessments, teacher programs and elevating the profession.
