Very different speeches, laden with humor, but both circle round to our shared humanity, lest we forget. Poehler spoke much of collaboration and reminded us of the importance of the most simple, yet powerful forms of human connectedness - which did not include the digital version.
Hanks started by taking a few shots about our wired lives and then spoke much of choosing between fear or faith, with a heartfelt advisement for us to take care of our men and women who have come home from war in service for our country.
