NC's Raleigh/Durham to New York City: We're Smarter
What makes your city so smart? Why is #1 Raleigh/Durham ranked higher than #2 San Francisco and #13 New York City?
In a study conducted by The Daily Beast, America's largest cities were ranked according to:
"Collective brainpower. More than sports prowess or political leanings or wealth or cultural accomplishments, this is the quintessential bragging point of a metropolitan area, the civic version of a playground taunt: I'm smart, you're not."
Four criteria were used: year degrees completed, graduate degrees completed, non-fiction books purchased, and incidence of voting. The latter two illustrate desire for continual learning and political engagement as it corresponds to engagement and higher intelligence.
